Last night, Take Stock Manatee Alum, Jennifer Caba, graduated from the University of South Florida – Sarasota Manatee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and with two additional honors:  She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Award and the Golden Bull Service and Leadership Award.  Jennifer finished her degree in just 3 and a half years!  At the ceremony, Jennifer credited some of her success to her Take Stock mentor, Elaine Graham.  In a 2013 essay, Jennifer wrote of her mentor, “Elaine is one of those amazing people that lives by that Mohammed Ali quote, ‘Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.’  She pays her “rent” with much desire, love and joy.  She was born to make a change, to give without expecting anything back and to live life to the best of God’s will. She has given her life to serve the people in this world, especially the young, those that are still in school. I can honestly say that I’ve never seen someone so dedicated to helping others.”

Jennifer still seeks Elaine’s advice and the pair can still be found, at least once a month, enjoying lunch at Panera.  Her next academic move?  Jennifer has applied to officer school in the United States Marine Corps and hopes to start basic training in May. “I will get a job in accounting eventually, but military is something I have always wanted to do.”

We are so proud to have both of these amazing ladies in our Take Stock Family!  You can make a difference in the life of a high-achieving, low-income scholar by becoming a volunteer mentor like Elaine Graham.  Mentors can be matched with students as early as sixth grade and meet with their students once a week for 30 minutes during the school day.  Visit to apply!
