Take Stock in Children of Manatee County will hold their Annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast on January 25 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center with Presenting Sponsor Sunz Insurance.  Sunz Insurance is a Bradenton-based insurance company that specializes in workers’ compensation insurance.

More than one thousand people are anticipated to attend the fundraising event that will be celebrating its eleventh year and featuring Take Stock in Children (TSIC) scholars. The event, modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. and attended by each President of the United States since President Eisenhower, raises awareness and funding for Take Stock in Children scholars.

“Take Stock in Children is a successful, college-readiness program for low income-students,” said Executive Director Jamie Serino. “What a great opportunity, that with hard work and dedication, joined with the caring support and mentoring of the Take Stock in Children team, children can pursue a post-secondary education and follow dreams that will have a positive impact on their lives, their families and the entire community forever.”

Mentoring plays a leading role at Take Stock in Children and keynote Mike Jarvis, NCAA basketball coach, ESPN commentator and author will speak to “The Power of Mentoring.”  Jarvis has served as both coach and mentor for high school and college students for more than two decades and is the author of “Everyone Needs a Head Coach.”

Retired in 2014, Jarvis was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in Leadership & Ministry from the South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary that same year.

Attendees will also hear from five TSIC scholars about achieving life-changing milestones: joining the program, graduating from high school, graduating from college and entering the workforce.

An annual event highlight will be the Triple Matching Challenge where TSIC Florida (state level) will match the money raised during the breakfast.  TSIC Manatee benefactors contribute to the Challenge and during the breakfast, guests are invited to join the Challenge.

“With the heartfelt support of benefactors like Bradenton Kiwanis who have partnered with us for many years and again this year, and the commitment of newcomers like Sunz Insurance who became presenting sponsors after they learned about us.... we’re excited about the possibility of exceeding the $122,000 raised last year and reaching more of our community about what we do,” said Serino.

Take Stock in Children, Inc. is a 501(3)C nonprofit organization with a mission to break the cycle of poverty for low income, academically-qualified students by providing opportunities for a post-secondary education for Florida students. The TSIC model includes enrollment as early as middle school, a guaranteed college scholarship, a mentor and a college success coach.

The Leadership Prayer Breakfast will begin at 7:30 am; ticket includes a full-catered breakfast. Reserve tables and get tickets online at:  www.TakeStockManatee.org/prayer-breakfast.
